.24 -> and i started slurring my words
.8 -> i felt dizzy and i quickly lost all
.439 -> feeling in the left side of my body
.48 -> thankfully my colleagues jumped into
.24 -> action and called 9-1-1
.96 -> before i knew it i was taken to mount
.96 -> sinai stroke center
.04 -> the doctors confirmed i suffered a
.8 -> stroke and treated me right away
.76 -> as a young and healthy person i never
-> thought in a million years that could
.68 -> happen to me
.2 -> after a scary ordeal i'm now recovering
.84 -> and doing well
.199 -> and i can't wait to go back to teaching
.199 -> again very soon
.75 -> [Music]
.64 -> wow and erity joins us now along with dr

.96 -> you
.039 -> hi good morning and erity we're so glad
.119 -> you're doing well now we know you're
.479 -> recovering successfully but can you take
.72 -> us back to that day when you were in the
.04 -> classroom
.479 -> were you conscious were you aware of
.24 -> what was happening in that moment
.56 -> oh yeah i i knew everything that was
.56 -> going on um
.4 -> there was no no loss of consciousness it
.2 -> was it was just really scary
.28 -> but when you so when you were
.64 -> experiencing those those uh symptoms
.96 -> already uh did you did you have a
.2 -> feeling that something was wrong that
.04 -> you maybe suspected a stroke or it was
.68 -> just you were wondering what was
.04 -> happening
.72 -> yeah i
.68 -> you know in the moment i
-> could not have told you what was
.52 -> happening i i you know i knew the
.92 -> symptoms of the stroke i just
.92 -> didn't think it applied to me as a young
.079 -> healthy person it didn't um
.96 -> you know it didn't cross my mind at all
.799 -> until
.759 -> i was in the emergency room and someone

.6 -> you know that you're having a stroke
.88 -> right now

.24 -> that doctor you actually perform the
-> procedure
.2 -> that removed the blood clot that caused
.399 -> this stroke can you tell us a little bit
.4 -> about that and also what are some of the
.92 -> warning signs that people should know if
.28 -> they find themselves in similar
.56 -> situations
.48 -> yeah the
.44 -> procedure that we did is called
.12 -> endovascular thrombectomy it's a
.72 -> minimally invasive brain surgery then we
.36 -> navigate the catheter
.36 -> through the vessel up to the brain to
.44 -> the clot and use certain technologies to
.2 -> capture the clot and restore the blood
.12 -> flow to the brain
.12 -> and doctor i'd imagine time was very
.76 -> important in the success of of this case
.56 -> but at 28 years old i feel like at the
.8 -> same time this this kind of happens and
.879 -> you don't think to go to the emergency
.8 -> room right away so but i mean that's
.28 -> really what you need to do time is of
.8 -> the essence
.2 -> when it comes to stroke time is up in
.12 -> essence the time is brain time loss is
.92 -> brain loss
.76 -> every 40 seconds someone in the united
.4 -> states has a stroke stroke is the
.36 -> major cause of disability in the nation
.92 -> however there is a treatment for a
.84 -> stroke if the patient arrives to the
.519 -> hospital
.959 -> in a timely manner
.56 -> doctor you know when we hear about you
.64 -> usually you hear about stroke we think
.08 -> it's usually older people arity is of
