Transcatheter Medical Device for Treating Heart Failure - 3D Animation

This medical animation shows a breakthrough device for treating heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF).

Alleviant Medical is a pre-commercial medical device company developing a minimally invasive, no implant device to treat chronic heart failure.

CAUTION: The Alleviant Medical technology is under investigational use only and not available for commercial distribution in the United States or any other market.

Heart failure, also known as congestive heart failure (CHF), occurs when the heart muscle doesn’t pump blood as well as it should. When this happens, blood often backs up and fluid can build up in the lungs, causing shortness of breath.

Certain heart conditions, such as narrowed arteries in the heart (coronary artery disease) or high blood pressure, gradually leave the heart too weak or stiff to fill and pump blood properly.

6.345 -> The Alleviant device is intended to relieve  excess pressure buildup within the heart that
10.905 -> causes shortness of breath and reduced quality  of life in patients with diastolic heart failure.
16.345 -> The device is inserted into a blood vessel located
19.705 -> in the groin and advanced over a guide  wire into the heart by a physician.
25.785 -> The device is advanced through a thinner portion  of the heart wall, called the inter atrial septum.
32.505 -> The device is then opened and slowly  retracted under image guidance
36.425 -> until the electrode resides on the right side of  the septum while the tip remains on the left side.
41.545 -> The device is enclosed, firmly securing the  tissue that will be removed within the device.
46.585 -> A short pulse of energy is applied to cut the  tissue, resulting in the controlled creation of
51.785 -> a durable passageway between the left and  right atrium called an interatrial shunt.
57.225 -> The guidewire and device are then removed as a  unit from the body leaving nothing behind. As a
62.505 -> result, blood is able to flow from the hearts  high pressure left side to the lower pressure
66.985 -> right side, thereby reducing the excess  pressure buildup within the left atrium.
