2.9 -> Heat stroke is caused by the failure of the thermostat in the brain, which regulates the body's temperature.
9.12 -> If someone has a high fever or has been in the heat for a long period of time,
13.54 -> the body can become dangerously overheated.
16.42 -> Heatstroke can develop from someone who is already suffering from heat exhaustion.
21.08 -> Heat stroke can develop quickly, with little warning and the casualty can become unresponsive
26.5 -> within a few minutes.
28.4 -> Our priority is to try and cool them down as quickly as possible and get them to hospital,
33.58 -> as this can be life-threatening.
37 -> If someone has heatstroke, you may see some of the following signs:
41.48 -> Hot flushed and dry skin, restlessness and confusion.
46.24 -> A headache, dizziness or discomfort.
49.22 -> A bounding pulse and high temperature above 40 degrees.
53.4 -> Or their level of response may decrease rapidly.
58.42 -> If someone has heat stroke, move them to a cool area quickly and remove their outer clothing where possible.
64.9 -> Call 999 or 112 for emergency help.
68.38 -> Help sit them down and wrap them in a cold wet sheet.
71.9 -> Pour water on the sheet to keep it wet until their temperature falls below 37.5 degrees.
77.74 -> You can measure this with a thermometer under the armpit.
81.2 -> If there's no sheet, you could sponge them with cold water or fan them to keep them cool.
86.24 -> When their temperature returns to normal, replace the wet sheet with a dry sheet.
91.22 -> While waiting for help to arrive, monitor their level of response.
95.26 -> If their temperature starts to rise again, repeat the process to try and cool them down.
100.66 -> If they become unresponsive at any point, prepare to treat an unresponsive casualty.
107.52 -> So remember, when treating heat stroke move them to a cool place and remove clothing where possible.
113.98 -> Call 999 or 112 for emergency help.
117.66 -> Wrap them in a cold wet sheet until their temperature drops.
121.12 -> And monitor their level of response.
